Estella Gutormson

Estella A. Gutormson, age 92, of De Smet, and formerly of Huron, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in De Smet. Burial was at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at 9:30 AM Friday, November 17th, followed by her memorial service at 10:30 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rick Senner officiating.

Estella Alfreda Haug was born October 7, 1914, at Willow Lake, South Dakota to Alfred and Ethel (Seim) Haug. She grew up at Willow Lake and graduated from high school there.

On September 3, 1938, she married Henry N. Gutormson at the church parsonage in Vienna, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived in Huron, De Smet, Redfield, and Hemet, California. Estella was a graduate of the Wilton Cake Decorating School in Omaha, Nebraska. She and her husband owned and operated Henry’s Pastry Shop in several of the communities in which they lived, including De Smet and Redfield. Estella was also a supervisor for Shaklee Products.

Estella was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She was a vocal soloist and had sung in church choirs for many years. Her husband died in March 1992, and she moved back to Huron in June 2000.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; an infant son; and her brother, John.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Tom) Brown, of Milaca, Minnesota; her son, John Gutormson, of Watertown; five grandchildren, Laurie, Tom, Lisa, Michael and Terri; and five great-grandchildren, Derrick, Anne Marie, Thomas, Chelsey and Zachary.
