Erma Schroder

Erma Schroder, age 81, of Huron, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her graveside service and burial was at 2 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum with Rev Daniel Domke officiating. 

Erma was born August 5, 1927 to Lloyd C. and Tillie (Stromquist) Edlin near Stockholm, Wisconsin.  She grew up in the Stockholm area and graduated from high school there.  She moved to Lake City, Minnesota to work at a restaurant, which is where she met her future husband. 

She married Gerald H. Schroder August 5, 1947 in Lake City, Minnesota.  A year later, they moved to Huron to open the A & W Drive-Inn.  She was the owner-manager there for over fifty years, working with countless young people, including her two sons and daughter-in-law, Gayle. 

For a number of years, she and her husband did a lot of traveling during the winter months, especially to Texas.  Erma belonged to a bridge club, and enjoyed playing cards and golf with her husband.  For many years, dancing was a favorite pastime of theirs on Saturday evenings.  Erma was a Scout leader and a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Fern; and two brothers, Quentin and Donald.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce (MaryAnn) Schroder, of Harrisburg, and Allen (Gayle) Schroder, of Huron; three grandchildren, Sharon (Dan) O’Connell, of Victoria, Minnesota, Chadwick A. (Jennifer) Schroder, of Huron, Zachary (Christy) Schroder, of Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Karissa, and Madyson Schroder and Peyton Schroder; one sister, Evelyn Lortscher, of Lake City, Minnesota; and a number of nieces and nephews.
