Emma Rau

Emma V. Rau, age 68, of Huron, died Friday, August 17, 2012, at her home.  Her memorial service was at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 21st at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating.  A private burial was held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family prefers memorials directed to HRMC Hospice. 

Emma V. Fuerst was born February 7, 1944, to Otto and Hilda (Schlenker) Fuerst, at Wessington Springs.  She grew up in the Wessington Springs area and graduated from Huron High School in 1962.

On March 29, 1962, Emma married Franklin A. Rau at Huron.  During the 8 years Frank served in the United States Army, they lived all over the United States and Germany, returning to Huron in 1970.

Emma worked many years between M-Tron, Wilbrechts, Raven Industries and Aerostar and at Franklin’s business, Dakota Cycles and Hobbies, through the years. 

Emma enjoyed spending time with her grandson and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Edwin, Erwin, Leonard, Otto, Oscar and Otto Chris; and three sisters, Gladys Davis, Alma Fink and Viola in infancy.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Frank of Huron; her daughter and son-in-law, Christina Marie and Rodney Liebnow of Wolsey; her grandson, Caleb Dean Liebnow;  her foster granddaughter, Cydnee Davis; four brothers, Rudolf (Delores) Fuerst of Spearfish, Ruben (Renate) Fuerst of Spearfish, Robert Fuerst of Wolsey, and Reinhold (Karen) Fuerst of Huron; five sisters, Leona Buckles of Denver, Colorado, Marie Kirton of Hemet, California, Helen Kihara of Huron, Bernice (Jack) Corey of Huron, and Lois Gascoigne of Huron; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.
