Emma Kitzman

Emma C. Kitzman, age 88, of Watertown, and formerly of Doland and Huron, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Prairie Lakes Care Center in Watertown. Her memorial service was Saturday, April 14th, at the First United Methodist Church in Huron with the Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Huron.

Emma Christene Herron was born on December 22, 1918, at Bradley, South Dakota to Frank and Mary (Barnett) Herron. She received her education in the Bradley area. Emma was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Bradley.

On January 5, 1936 Emma married Lester Poppen at Crocker. To this union two children were born. They lived in the Willow Lake and Watertown area. Lester passed away on September 27, 1954.

On November 21, 1956 Emma married Donald Kitzman at Doland. They made their home on the family farm until 1982 when they moved to Huron. They spent the winter months in Mesa, Arizona. Donald passed away on January 16, 2003. Emma moved to Watertown October 2003.

Emma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron and a member of Prairie Rebekah #76 Lodge of LaDelle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; two husbands; two sisters; one brother; two half-sisters; and two half-brothers.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Joan (Jerry) Boeder of Watertown; her son, Curtis Poppen of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Bruce Boeder, Jeffrey Boeder, and Brenda (Bob) Boettcher all of Watertown, and Julie (Dale) Plunkett of Goodwin; five great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Jacob, Kayla, Parker, and Dale II; one sister Violet Weltmer of Paso Robles, California; and one brother-in-law, Roy Petersen of Sioux Falls.
