Edward J. Tschetter was born October 17, 1918, to Lorenz L.S. and Susanna (Kleinsasser) Tschetter at Freeman.  He moved with his parents to Beadle County and attended rural grade school in Beadle County and the Sunnyside Bible School at Freeman.

On March 2, 1941, Edward married Cathern Gross at Hutterthal Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Carpenter.  He was a member of the Hutterthal Church, but when they moved to Huron, he transferred his membership to the Bethesda Church in Huron. Ed farmed from 1941 until his retirement in 1977, and then stayed busy mowing lawns and doing odd jobs for people.  Ed suffered a stroke in 1990 which left him limited, but he stayed as active as possible by going out for coffee and visiting friends.  In February 2008, he entered SunQuest Healthcare Center, where he enjoyed taking part in activities and visiting with friends that he made there.  He always had an interest in what his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren were doing.
