Edrie Wiand

Edrie Wiand, age 92, of Huron, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Sunquest Health Care Center in Huron.  Her memorial service was at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 14th at the Wolsey Presbyterian Church with  Shirley Scotter officiating.  Her cremated remains will be interred in California.  

Edrie Iris Davis was born October 21, 1916, in Alpena, South Dakota to Wylie and Anna (Bartel) Davis.  She grew up on a farm near Alpena until her family moved to the Wessington area.  She graduated from Sand Creek Consolidated High School.  On January 9, 1937, Edrie married Everette Wiand.  They lived on a farm near Wolsey until the 1950s when they moved to Ree Heights.  In 1965, they moved to Covina, California where they owned and operated a restaurant.  They retired in the 1980s.  Everette died in 1990 and Edrie moved back to South Dakota in 1995.  She entered the Huron Nursing Home in October 2000. 

Edrie was a good cook and was well-known for her coleslaw and her chocolate cake.   She was a good seamstress and made clothing for herself, her daughters, and her grandchildren. She was a member of Sand Creek and Vernon homemaker clubs.   Edrie liked to dance and she and her husband spent many weekends at area dances. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Rollas and Richard; and two sisters, Arlene Koch and Doris Meier. 

She is survived by her daughters, Janice (Harry) Marone of Wolsey, and Barbara (Alan) Slovin of Henderson, Nevada; five grandchildren, Kurt Marone, Kay Marone, Shawn Ekren, Joseph Sisis and Shane Sisis; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; one sister, Neda Fenske of Huron; two sisters-in-law, Macy Davis of  rural Huron and Betty Davis of Logan, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.
