Edna M. Walton

Edna Walton, age 94, of Huron, died Saturday, December 29, 2007, at her residence.  She was cremated and a memorial service was held in Wayne, Kansas. 

Edna May was born February 3, 1913, at Chaney, Oklahoma to Wilber Simpson and Annie Ovedia (Lee) Wood.  At the age of nine she moved to Concordia, Kansas.  She graduated from Concordia High School and then clerked at Duckwall’s Department Store.  On June 4, 1935, she married Byron Walton at Belleville, Kansas.  Following their marriage they lived in Nebraska and she worked at the Mead Defense Plant during World War II.  In 1946 they moved to Huron and Edna worked at Newberry’s and at the Coast to Coast Store, retiring at the age of 62.  They moved to Kansas in 1971 and in 1989 they returned to Huron.  During their years of marriage they took in over twenty different foster children. 

Edna is survived by her two sons, Dennis and his wife, Jean Walton of Huron, and Gary and his wife Kathy Walton of Belleville, Kansas; one daughter, Tonia Stahl of Huron; twelve grandchildren, Dale, Dean and Darrell Stahl, Jeff, Tonia, Angela and Tracie Walton, Corina, Teresa, Naomi, Scott and Crystal Walton; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ina Faye McKensie of Weeping Water, Nebraska.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Byron on July 26, 2004; her brother Wilber Wood; her son-in-law, Tony Stahl; and a great-granddaughter, Aaron Kiepke.
