Edith Bryson

Edith Bryson, age 101, of Huron, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.  Her funeral service was at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 27th, at Huron Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Lafreniere officiating.  Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery at Iroquois. 

Hattie Edith Ward was born March 11, 1910, at Cape Fair, Missouri, to Dennis and Lenora (Rainey) Ward.  At age 9, her family moved to Cavour, South Dakota.  She attended school at Cavour, then a country school by Carpenter.  Edith attended high school at Bancroft. 

On March 11, 1930, Edith married Merle Bryson, in her parents’ home at Osceola.  After their marriage, they moved to Darlington, Wisconsin, and lived there for forty-one years.  They then moved to Exeter, Missouri, and lived there for six years. They spent several winters in Texas and Florida.   After Merle died October 26, 1976, Edith moved to Huron, and has lived here ever since.

Edith was a member of the Huron Baptist Church.  She was also a life long member of the Huron Senior Center where she was active in the Volunteers Program, the Adult Care Center, and the Rhythm Ramblers Band, and assisted with the Stroke Club since 1983.  Edith was also a member of the HRMC Auxiliary since 1977.

She enjoyed embroidering, quilting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Ossie, Finis, Dewey, Ray and Frank Ward; and three sisters, Lena Owen, Zula Mae (Barton) Schultz, and Ettie Ward in infancy.

Grateful for having shared in her life are a special niece, Jessie Barton of Huron; and many other nieces and nephews.
