Dorothy Pratt

Dorothy Pratt, age 84, of Huron, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at her home. Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 19, at the Riverview United Methodist Church, with Rev. Barry Whipkey officiating. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Riverview Missions and the Liza Tschetter Memorial Scholarship.

Dorothy Elaine Sadler was born March 16, 1927, to Theodore and Gladys (Olson) Sadler at Perrysville, Indiana. When she was three, her family moved to Erwin, South Dakota where she attended school and graduated from high school there. After high school, Dorothy worked for the South Dakota Department of Health at Pierre and the South Dakota Unemployment Office in Aberdeen.

On September 27, 1947, Dorothy married Weldon E. Pratt at De Smet. They farmed near Manchester, Cavour and Carpenter. She worked for Dairy Herd Improvement for twenty-four years, retiring in 1990.

Dorothy and Weldon enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. A special memory for Dorothy was taking a trip to Jamaica in 2006 to visit her life long pen pal, Kate.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Dorothy liked playing cards and dominoes.  She was well known for baking Grammy D’s buns for her great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church where she was involved in the ladies activities and served on various committees.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Weldon on September 19, 1998; two sisters, Nadine Joyce in infancy and Mildred Krick; and one granddaughter, Liza Tschetter on August 20, 1997.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter and her husband, Jane and Orrin Tschetter of Huron; two sons and their wives, William “Bill” and Clarice Pratt of Worthington, Minnesota and James “Jim” and Shelley Pratt of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Jill (Merrit) Mendel, Megan (Nathan) Janzen, Karrie (Mike) Waskiewicz, William (Denise) Pratt, Jr., and Sara (John) Tackett; twelve great-grandchildren, Blake, Seth and Hope Mendel, Benjamin, Emily and Thomas Pratt, Summer, Kate, Jessah and Leah Janzen, Melissa Tackett-Pratt, and Kaela Waskiewicz; and one brother, Theodore Sadler of Soldotna, Alaska.
