Dorothy Paye

Dorothy Paye, age 87, of Huron, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her memorial service was at 2 PM, Monday, May 17th at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin Channell and Rev. Andrew Crandall officiating.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Her family prefers memorials directed to HRMC Hospice.

Dorothy F. Gillenberg was born August 12, 1922, to Peter and Clara (Dalrymple) Gillenberg at Wolsey.  She attended rural Beadle County schools, graduating from Wolsey High School in 1940.  Following high school Dorothy attended Northwestern College of Commerce.

On June 1, 1946, Dorothy married Roy Paye at the Wolsey Presbyterian Church.  She worked in the business office at Armour and Company.  In 1966, Dorothy started working as a clerk at the Cavour Post Office.  From 1971 to 1992, she served as the Cavour Postmaster. 

Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the National League of Postmasters, and the HRMC Auxiliary.  She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and loved traveling.  Dorothy visited all 50 states, plus Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas.  Dorothy and Erlene made numerous car trips together, they also took a bus tour to the fall foliage in the New England states, and flew to Hawaii.  After her retirement, Dorothy made two trips in an RV to Alaska with her aunt and uncle.  In the early spring of 2010, Dorothy and her sister-in-law, Sharon Gugin spent 10 days in Mesa, Arizona with Erlene and Ray.  Dorothy and Erlene’s trip on Mother’s Day 2010 was to “Stars On Ice” in St. Paul.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, on March 18, 1981; and three brothers, Phillip and Erle Gillenberg and Lyle Gugin.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Erlene and Ray Grimes of Brandon, and many other relatives and friends.
