Geigel, age 95, Huron, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.  Her funeral mass was at 10:30 AM, Monday, May 2nd at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with celebrant Rev. Terry Anderson.  Burial was in the St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home of Huron.

Doris R. Kurth was born on September 2, 1915, to William and Edna (Mittnacht) Kurth at Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  She grew up there, attended grade school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933, where she was active in field hockey, swimming, girls’ athletic club and mixed chorus.

On July 9, 1935, Doris married her high school sweetheart, Roy W. Geigel at Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  She enjoyed singing in the Weston Womens’ Chorus.

Besides Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Roy and Doris lived in Marinette, Wisconsin, Menominee, Michigan, and Escanaba, Michigan, and in 1956 they moved to Huron, South Dakota, because of Roy’s employment with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.  Doris attended Huron College and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary and Secondary Education.  She taught at Valley #1 and Fairfield #4 schools in Beadle County, and Cavour, Hitchcock, Wolsey, and Alpena Schools.

Doris was a member of the American Association of University Women, Manitowoc VFW Auxiliary and Toastmistress Club.

In their retirement, Doris and Roy enjoyed camping, bicycling, playing tennis, walking, swimming, and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy in 2005; three brothers; and one sister in infancy.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five children and their spouses, Anne and Harvey Wollman of Frankfort, South Dakota, Jeannette and Robert Pembroke of Mobridge, South Dakota, Roy and Darlene Geigel Jr. of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Kurth J. Geigel of San Diego, California and Marie and David Buccolo of Stockton, California; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.  Doris is also survived by two sisters, Jeannette Fidler and Joan and Paul Hoyer all of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Kurth of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Sister Loretta Jo Geigel of Cambellsport, Wisconsin.
