Kuhler Funeral Home

A family is a legacy of love, a love that lasts forever.

Don Spain

Don Spain, age 61, of Huron, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at his home.  His funeral service was at 2 PM Saturday, November 1st, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Crippen officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.

Don Spain was born July 9, 1947, to Paul and Sadie “Bernice” (Parkhurst) Spain at Iroquois, South Dakota.  He grew up in Wessington and Iroquois and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1965.

On May 31, 1980, Don married Karen Pugsley-Voigt at Huron.  Don worked for Larson Digging and Selland Trucking.  He was a construction foreman for Art Pugsley Construction Company Incorporated.

Golf was Don’s passion.  He couldn’t wait for golfing season to begin each year.  Although Don was a very competitive golfer, he didn’t take the game too seriously.

Don cherished the mornings and his coffee time with his wife, Karen.  They enjoyed watching the sun rise together, especially in his last few months.

His pride and joy was spending time with his eight grandchildren.  They enjoyed teasing him.  He took it well and knew how to give it back.  Don was a very good-natured man, and never had a bad word to say about anyone.  His smile and laugh were contagious.  Everyone always commented on Don’s beautiful, piercing blue eyes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul J. Spain, Jr.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen of Huron; four children, Tammy (Neil) Coyle of Cambridge, Minnesota, Cindy (Bucky) Schumacher of Sioux Falls, Corbin (Tammy) Voigt of Portland, Oregon, and a daughter from a previous marriage, Stacy; eight grandchildren, Megan and Josh Coyle, Jerrod, Tory and Alyssa Schumacher and Zachary, Parker and Cameron Voigt; four brothers, Jim (Diannah) Spain of Sun City, California, Bob (Pat) Spain of Pahrump, Nevada, Butch (Jean) Spain of Tacoma, Washington, and his twin brother, Ron (Janet) Spain of Plymouth, Minnesota; and four sisters, Dorathy Paul of Litchfield, Minnesota, Vi (Bill) Zimlinghaus of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, Norma (Merlin) Rieck of Huron, and Barb (Bob) Boone of Vermillion.
