Dianna Burkel obituary photoDianna “Dani Rae” Burkel, age 68, of Huron, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.  Her memorial service was at 11 AM Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Holland officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

Dianna Rae Burkel, was born November 16, 1943 at Fergus Falls, Minnesota to James O. and Harriet  (Forbes) Bauman.    Dani Rae grew up in Huron and attended school at Huron.   On July 19, 1961, she married Carl Burkel at Saint Wilfred Catholic Church in Woonsocket.  They lived in various places while Carl served in the US Air Force.  Following his discharge they moved to Woonsocket and then to Huron in 1969. 

During her working years Dani Rae worked at the Plains as a bartender and a bar maid for 18 years.  Some of her hobbies included bowling, bingo and baking.  She made awesome fudge which earned her an honorable mention at the South Dakota State Fair.  She also enjoyed shopping and trips to Florida.  However, spending time with her grandchildren was at the top of her list of favorite activities. 

She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Carl Burkel of Huron ;  four children and their families, Thomas and his wife Dawn Burkel of Alpena and their seven children, Dawn and her husband Kelup Lechner of Aberdeen and their two children, Jody Delgado of Rapid City and her three children, and James and his wife Billie Jo Burkel of Cavour and their two children; a sister, Janet and her husband Ron Rust of Nemo, South Dakota; and a half-sister, Barbara Young and her husband Bill of Milwaukee, Oregon.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Bryce; one great-granddaughter, Grace; and one brother, Richard Bauman.
