Diane M. Swisher

Diane M. Swisher, age 63, of Huron, died Sunday, November 8, 2009,   with her family by her side, at Huron Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.  Her funeral service was at 4:00 PM Wednesday, November 11th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Leonard Kayser and the Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating.  Memorials may be directed to the Diane Swisher Memorial School Fund. 

Diane was born October 24, 1946, in Great Falls, Montana to Sam and Dorothy (Schuster) Woods.  She attended schools in Lewiston, Conrad, and Billings, Montana, and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1964.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Northern State University in elementary education. 

Diane worked in Watertown, Eureka and Vermillion as an elementary teacher.  She also taught 31 years in the Huron Public school system.  Most of those years were with her kindergarten classes at Washington Elementary School. 

In 1966, she married Steve Swisher and to this union two daughters were born, Sharee and Kristi.  She enjoyed collecting antiques, teaching, family gatherings, her grandchildren, her husband Steve, and his many hunting dogs.

She is survived by her father, Sam Woods of Aberdeen; her husband Steve, of Huron; her daughters, Sharee and Alan Boyle of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Kristi and Vyto Gorinas of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her siblings, Douglas and Val Woods of Cherokee, Iowa, Darrel Woods of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Debbie and Kip Squire of Omaha, Nebraska, and David and Mary Jo Woods of Aberdeen; her mother-in-law, Doris Swisher of Aberdeen; her brothers-in-law, Clark, Jr. and Marty Swisher of Columbia, Missouri and Dan and Joan Swisher of Mandan, North Dakota; and her grandchildren, Trenton and Allison Boyle and Chloe, Ava, Vienna, Noelle, and baby girl Gorinas  (due at the end of November). 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Woods; her nephew, Michael Woods; her nieces, Michelle Woods and Megan Squire; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Woods; her father-in-law, Clark Swisher; and her brother-in-law, Joel Swisher.
