Dennis Knouse

Dennis Knouse obituary photoDennis Knouse, age 52, of Huron, died Thursday, August 12, 2010, at the Rapid City Regional Medical Center.  His memorial service was at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 17th, at the Riverview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barry Whipkey officiating.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.  A memorial will be established in Dennis’ name.

Dennis Knouse was born November 2, 1957, to Lloyd and Donna (Schley) Knouse in Huron, South Dakota.  Dennis graduated from Huron High School in 1976 and from Mitchell Tech in 1979 with a degree in Electrical Maintenance.

Dennis worked for various electrical companies in Huron before obtaining employment with Northwestern Energy, where he had worked for the past 23 years.  Recently Dennis was promoted to the job of his dreams, as Substation Electrician.  He was thrilled with the anticipation of no more storm callouts—instead he could now enjoy warm cozy nights and weekends with his family at home.

On November 21, 1981, Dennis married the love of his life, Shirley (Gamber) Knouse.  Their lives were enriched with the birth of their daughter Rachel (Matt) Johnson and their son Kyle, and his fiance Chelsey Roache.

Dennis loved the competition of any sport!  He especially loved softball and hunting.  His hobbies included anything and everything that involved his children.  Dennis’ children and wife were the joys of his life!  Attending father-daughter banquets with Rachel and always telling her what a beautiful young woman she was—Dennis always had a kind word.  Go-Karts, hockey and racing were the passions shared by Kyle and his father—if they weren’t riding their Harleys, you could find them in the garage getting the race car ready for the next race!

Dennis was extremely talented in anything and everything he set his mind to.  He was a “Jack of all trades” with the gift of being able to visit with everyone.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his loving wife and best friend, Shirley Knouse of Huron; his daughter, Rachel (Matt) Johnson of Sioux Falls; his son, Kyle Knouse (fiance Chelsey Roache) of Huron; his granddaughter, Braelyn of Huron; his parents, Lloyd and Donna Knouse of Huron; two sisters, Lynne (Gary) Marshall of Hitchcock and Larae Johnsen of Huron; one brother, Derek (Rose) Knouse of Huron; his mother-in-law, Monica Gamber of Huron; two brothers-in-law, Michael (Julie) Gamber  of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Stuart (Lori) Gamber of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Heather (Kirk) Dietz of Huron; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends and acquaintances.

Preceding Dennis in death were an infant brother; his father-in-law, Luverne Gamber; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and two nephews, Tory Boomsma and Travis Knouse.
