Delvin Mattke obituary photoDelvin Mattke, age 80, of Huron, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at his residence.  His funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 28th  at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Crippen officiating.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family requests memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Delvin Mattke was born January 3, 1929, to Albert and Caroline (Haffner) Mattke on the family farm in Beadle County near Huron.  He attended country schools and Huron High School.

On January 20, 1949, Delvin married his sweetheart, Delma Newland at the Assembly of God Church in Huron.  They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January.

Delvin farmed his whole life in Beadle County until retiring in 1992.  After retirement, Delvin started new pastimes of wood carving and collecting bronze horses.  Delvin and Delma joined the Rovers Camping Club and enjoyed camping from 1999 to 2007.  He enjoyed fishing for catfish from the James River bridge.  Delvin also liked to dance, play cards and spend time with family and friends.  He liked going on wagon trains with his son, grandsons and nephews.

Delvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert Jr. and Edward; and one sister, Edna.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 60 years, Delma Mattke of Huron; one son, Bob and his wife, Jean Mattke of Huron; one daughter, Carolin and her husband, Bob Schinderling of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Nicole and her husband, Eric Held of Logan, Utah, Stacy and her husband, Matt Meyer of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, Troy and his wife, Amy Mattke of Waconia, Minnesota, and Jon Kotas and his fiancÚ, Bree Ogden of Derby, Kansas; one step granddaughter, Angela Schinderling of Aberdeen; nine great- grandchildren, Greta, Ericson, Gavin, Collette and Julia Held, Connor and Logan Meyer, Benjamin Mattke and Kohen Kotas; three step great-grandchildren, Tyler Schinderling, Kayla Henson and Jacob Russell; two sisters, Norma and her husband, Wilbur Cecil of De Smet and Lois Meyer of Huron; one brother, Jerry and his wife, Lee Mattke of Sun City West, Arizona and one sister-in-law, Ann Mattke of Huron.
