Delbert M. Paul

Delbert M. Paul, age 82, of Huron, died Tuesday morning, September 25, 2007, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.  His funeral service was at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 29th at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Rinearson, officiating.  Military rites was provided by the Huron Veterans Council.  Entombment was at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum. 

Delbert M. Paul was born on May 19, 1925 at Mitchell, South Dakota.  At six weeks of age, he was adopted by Francis (Lea) and Irving Paul of Doland, South Dakota.  He graduated from Doland High School in 1943.  After serving in World War II, he attended the University of South Dakota.  He married Verna (Gackstetter) Willis on July 9, 1951.  He started his thirty-five years in banking at First National Bank of Clark, South Dakota.  In 1963, they moved to Onida, South Dakota, where he started Sully County Bank.  In 1967, they moved to Mora, Minnesota, where he was employed at Peoples National Bank for twenty-nine years.  He retired in 1986.

He was a past member of Rotary, Elks, Masons and American Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and traveling.

They moved to Huron, South Dakota in 1996, to be close to their daughter and her family.

He is survived by his wife, Verna of Huron; one daughter, Kathryn Fox of Wolsey; one grandson, Brett (Wanda) Hanson; three granddaughters, Chantell (Bryan) Engels, Jo Linda Fox and her fiance Reese Brown, and Jodi (Jon) Heller; seven great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; one granddaughter-in-law, Kim Hanson; one sister, Alyce (Norbert) Miles; two brothers-in-law, Dean (Ardy) Gackstetter and Kenneth Pederson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Bradley Hanson and Bruce Hanson; his parents; and one sister-in-law, Velma Pederson.
