Dean Engel obituary photoDean Engel, age 59, of Huron, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010.  His funeral service was at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 11th at the Kuhler Funeral Home with Rev. George Parmeter officiating.  Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites given by the Huron Veterans Council.

Dean Leroy Engel was born March 31, 1951, to Otto and Charlotte (Meyer) Engel at Huron.  He grew up in the Huron area.  On July 18, 1969, Dean joined the United States Army.   While in the Army, Dean was stationed in Germany.  He was honorably discharged October 3, 1974, and then continued his service in the South Dakota National Guard, serving over 20 years.

On December 27, 1970, Dean married Debra Bjorke at Huron. 

Dean worked as a meat packer for Armours, Huron Dressed Beef, Dakota Cold Storage, Heartland Pork and LSI.  He was a mason with Huron Lodge #26 A.F. & A.M., was a member of the Order of the Easter Star Mizpah Chapter #9 and served as worthy patron and in several other offices in that organization.  Dean was also a member of the James Valley Shrine Club.

Dean enjoyed working word search puzzles.  He was a great baker.  Dean also enjoyed spending time with family, especially being around children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Debra on March 23, 2002; one brother, Steve; and four sisters, Deanne, Delaine, Barb, and Peggy Sue in infancy.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his son, Jason Engel and his wife, Audra of Bath; his daughter, Tara Engel and her special friend, Shaun Klinger of Huron; two grandchildren, Jayden and Bailey Engel of Bath; his special friend, Noela Swenson of Huron; two brothers, Dennis Engel and his wife, Paula of Portland, Washington, and his twin brother, Duane Engel of Huron; four sisters, Susan and her husband Dan Sedillo, Mary and her husband, Rich Wilson, Misty and her husband, Tim Mills, and Melinda and her husband, William Bartling, all of Gregory; and many nieces and nephews.
