Charles P. Nelson

Charles P. Nelson, age 64, of Huron, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  His funeral liturgy was at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 14th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Terry Anderson officiating.  Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Charles P. Nelson was born June 1, 1944, to Palmer and Lucy (Gockowski) Nelson at Pickerel Lake near Webster, South Dakota.  His family moved to Huron February 2, 1951, where he grew up and attended school.  Charley joined the United States Navy.  After his discharge, Charley returned to Huron where he worked for Underwood Construction doing gas line construction.  After that Charley worked in the oil fields in Kansas.  He returned to Huron in 1983, and worked for Innovative Industries.  In 1991, Charley went to work for the Center for Independence, where he was working at the time of his death.

In 1966, Charley married Linda Neville. They later divorced.  On September 14, 1996, Charley married Judy Koch Dilley at Huron.

Charley enjoyed hunting and fishing and cooking with his wife, Judy.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Judy of Huron; two children, Christopher Nelson and Denise Taylor both of Independence, Kansas; two step-sons, Steve (Jennifer) Dilley of Arlington and Jeff (Laurie) Dilley of Huron; fourteen grandchildren, Courtney and Dylan Taylor, Jeromy Long, Jared, Zachary and Blake Dilley, Dakotah and Tyler Dean, Cassie, Sara and James Wahl, Angela Merry, and Daniel and Justin Bublitz; six great-grandchildren, Lilly, Hunter and Joey Merry, Issac Dean, Nevaeh Wahl, Lakynn Long and baby Long due in September; four brothers, Virgil (Jo Jo) Nelson of Huron, Phillip (Amy) Nelson of Morehead City, North Carolina, Ronald (Ruth) Nelson of Huron and Loren (Rhonda) Nelson of Cavour; three sisters, Phyllis (Dean) Loffelbein of Amarillo, Texas, Delores (Burton) Lounsbury of Huron and Debra (Ron) Baruth of Alpena; one sister-in-law, Ethel Nelson of Huron; one brother-in-law, Lanny Lundeen of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence Nelson; two sisters, Adeline Bowen and Leona Lundeen; and one son-in-law, Mark Taylor.
