Carolyn Hyde obituary photoCarolyn May Hyde, 84, of Huron, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral was at 11 AM Friday, February 13, 2009, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Crippen officiating.  Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home Family Services Council. 

Carolyn May Grace was born November 13, 1924, to Leslie and Bernice (Berry) Grace on the family farm near Alpena, South Dakota.  She graduated from Woonsocket High School 1942. In 1944 she graduated from Madison Normal and began her teaching career in Onida, South Dakota.  She later attended Huron College and completed her Bachelor’s degree in 1967.

She married Jack Hyde on December 30, 1947, at her parent’s home on a farm near Woonsocket.  They lived in Huron where she taught at Wilson and Washington elementary schools, retiring in 1983.

She and Jack spent 17 winters in Arizona, moving back to Huron full time in 2003.  She was a 50-year+ member of the First United Methodist Church, the Huron Retired Teacher’s Association, and Chapter CH P.E.O.  She loved playing cards, especially Bridge, and belonged to many Bridge clubs in Huron and Arizona.  She also loved to play golf.  

Her parents and one brother, Ernan Grace, preceded her in death.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Jack of Huron; three daughters, Peggy (Dale) Gibson of Huron, Jacalyn (Stephen) Wolferman of Paramus, New Jersey, Connie (Gainard) Mattke of Omaha, Nebraska; one son, Bradley (Mia) Hyde of Gibbon, Nebraska; two brothers, Ernest (Ilah) Grace of Chandler, Arizona, and Leslie I. Grace, Jr. (Ardis) of Blair, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Mavis Grace of Huron; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
