Kuhler Funeral Home

A family is a legacy of love, a love that lasts forever.

Carol Jean Wallman

On Saturday, March 1, 2008, Carol Jean Wallman was going to be given a picture showing an artist’s rendition of the face of Jesus.  That picture became superfluous as Carol came face to face with Jesus himself when she passed away at about 8:00 PM on Friday, February 29, 2008.  She now knows a joy we can only begin to imagine.

Carol was born February 5, 1945 at Huron.  At about the age of three she contracted polio.  Carol endured several surgeries and assorted therapies over the years.  She used a full body brace and Kenny sticks to attend Huron Senior High School, from which she graduated in 1963.  She began using a wheelchair shortly after graduation.  Carol worked briefly at the Marvin Hughitt Hotel in Huron after high school, and later served as a provider of child care for a few working mothers.  She lived in Huron with her parents and her sister Jean.

Carol was blessed with a loving family and enjoyed an unique relationship with her sister.  They lived, laughed, shopped and vacationed together.  Ultimately they moved from the family home at 642 Idaho Avenue NE into a home of their own at 669 Dakota Avenue North.  Carol lived there with Jean until moving to the Huron Nursing Home on February 11th of this year.  Since January 2001, Carol has needed 24-hour care.  This was provided by caregivers during daytime work hours, and by Jean the remainder of the day and overnight.  Jean can be thanked for whatever quality of life Carol had during that time as she was lovingly and totally attentive and saw that Carol’s needs were met at all times.

In spite of her almost constant discomfort from polio, Carol was a warm and gentle soul, always ready with a smile and a hug.  She worked on assorted crafts over the years, and enjoyed cooking and baking as long as she was able.  There are so many tales of fun and laughter we could share (ask us about the bowl of soup sometime, or the sack of garbage), but we will let the people who took the time to visit her recall their own personal memories.  Carol was indeed special, and she will be greatly missed.

Carol is survived by her sister, Jean of Huron; her brother, John and sister-in-law, Bette of Madison, Minnesota; and her niece, Carol Ann (Paul) Whatley, also of Huron.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry, her nephew Logan, and her parents, John and Catherine.  Blessed be her memory.

Her funeral service was at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 4, 2008  at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tom Brantner officiating.  Burial was in the Ideal Cemetery.
