Muriel June Erickson was born June 6, 1923, in Huron, South Dakota to Mike and Florence Yenney. She grew up in Huron and made her home in Huron her entire life. She graduated from Huron High School. In 1943 Muriel and married Darles Erickson (deceased). They had two daughters, Jean and Krista Kay (deceased). Muriel was a very active member of the First Methodist Church. She received the United Methodist Women’s pin for her many years of volunteer service. She earned a life membership in the PTA and a 15 year pin from the Girl Scouts of America for her many volunteer years. After her daughters were grown, she volunteered for many years at the Christian Learning Center. She also worked at Larry’s Clothing store and Zales Jewelry store. She was active in the Democratic Party. She was an avid glassware collector and many consulted with her regarding pieces of glass and other antiques they wished to learn more about. When she still drove, many knew her by her car filled with stuffed animals, which she often gave to children. She was a good friend, caring and supportive, with a marvelous sense of humor. She exhibited great resilience when life’s challenges came her way. Muriel died suddenly July 1, 2009, just weeks after her 86th birthday, which she celebrated at the Courtyard Apartments with her daughter, Jean, many friends and former neighbors. We do not really know for sure what happens when we leave this world, but somewhere Muriel is smiling on us, hoping we’re ok, wishing us strength and courage and loving us.
