Joe Alvin Wipf was born May 10, 1916, in Freeman, South Dakota to Joe K. and Susie (Kleinsasser) Wipf. He moved to Beadle County at the age of five and attended school in Spink and Beadle counties near Carpenter, South Dakota. On April 30, 1939, he married Hilda Kleinsasser at his parents’ home near Carpenter. Joe worked at Armour & Company for 21 years, and at Swift Foods and Fairmont Foods. He also did some lawn service for several years. Joe was saved at the old Mission Church on Second Street in Huron by Paul H. Glanzer. He was a member of the Huron Mission Church. Grateful for having shared his life are three sons, Melroy (Marsha) Wipf, of Watertown, Eugene (Judy) Wipf, of Huron, and Laverne (Vivian) Wipf of Madison; one daughter, Diane (Clinton) Wipf of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Tracey Anderson, Tami Ruter, Troy Wipf, Tyler Wipf, Ginger Tucker, Travis Wipf and Michelle Schweer; seven great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Courtney, Kendra, Kaden, Marissa, Luke and Emily; and one sister, Mary Dammeier of Huron. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hilda; five brothers, Ewald and Ruben in infancy, Melvin at the age of nine years, and John and David Wipf; one sister, Marcella Wipf; and a granddaughter, Julie Diane Wipf.
