Floyd Walter Pevestorf, son of William and Dora (Baseler) Pevestorf was born September 10, 1923, in Princeton, Minnesota. During his youth, he spent several years with his grandparents on their farm at Coon Rapids, Iowa. Floyd attended school in Princeton, Minnesota. He served a little over a year in the United States Navy in the Philippines. In 2000, Floyd and several World War II veterans who did not complete high school because of the war were awarded an “honorary high school diploma” by the Huron High School. Floyd moved to South Dakota in the late 1940s. He worked for area farmers, Art Mueller Trucking, Firestone, Al Walker Trucking, and Glendenning Motorways, where he was a manager for over twenty years. In 1971, Floyd went to work for Hurd Alignment where he was the parts manager until his retirement in 1997. On August 5, 1951, Floyd married Carol Paye in Huron. Since May 1959, Floyd had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, and a past member of the Beadle County Sportsman’s Club. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes and bowling. He was a member of the Men’s Bowling Association for a number of years. Floyd also enjoyed camping, and listening to or watching the Minnesota Twins play. Every summer he always had a big garden as he was a farmer at heart. He spent a lot of time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For a number of years, Floyd and Carol spent winters in Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Huron; three daughters, Linda (Tim) Traver of Hitchcock, Marla (Terry) Bawdon and Nancy (Kenny) Shoultz, all of Huron; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Damion) Heathcote of Larimore, North Dakota, Tim (Tammy) Paulson of Gillette, Wyoming, Dawn (Josh) Reimer of Gillette, Wyoming, Wendy (Matt) Risetter of Redfield, Kayla Bawdon (Matt White) of Laramie, Wyoming, Josh Shoultz (Shannon Fandrich) of Gillette, Wyoming, and Tara (Michael) Eggleston of Huron; one step-granddaughter, Leah Traver of Redfield; eleven great-grandchildren, Jazilynn, Kylie, MattyJo, Brady and Savannah Risetter, Devan Paulson, Payge Heathcote, Alexis and Jadie Reimer, and Kailynn and Morgan Eggleston; five step-great-grandchildren, Carlie and Nolan Songer, Kayla Remington, Chantel McQuin and Colton Acuna; one step-great-great-grandchild, MaShia McQuin; three brothers, Leonard (Joyce) Pevestorf and Earl Pevestorf, all of Huron and Harold (Betty) Pevestorf of Wessington; and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Ronald Pevestorf; and one nephew, Duane Pevestorf.
