Bertha Stahl

Bertha Stahl, age 95, of Huron and formerly of Yale, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Stoneybrook Suites.  Her funeral service was at 10 AM, Saturday, April 11th at the Bethel Church, rural Yale, with Pastor Ray Shepard officiating.  Burial was in the Bethel Church Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the Byron Bible Camp.

 Bertha Stahl was born to David G. and Kathrina (Gross) Tschetter.  She grew up with her six sisters and two half-brothers on a farm near Carpenter.  She graduated from Jefferson School.

Bertha married George Stahl on September 23, 1937.  Together they farmed for fifty years near Yale.  She loved the farm life in the open country and never wanted to be anywhere else.  That is where they raised their eight children.  She was totally dedicated to being a farm wife and mother.  Bertha was a wonderful cook, especially her German dishes and baked goods.  She liked cooking, gardening and sewing.  She enjoyed playing dominoes, card games and reading.

Bertha was a member of the Mennonite church near Carpenter.  She loved singing hymns.  She read the Bible through many times.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George Stahl on July 26, 2000; two sons, Daniel and Darwin Stahl; a daughter, Mildred Stahl; a daughter-in-law, Bertha Emma Stahl; a granddaughter, Sarah Jo Kleinsasser; her parents; two half-brothers; and four sisters.

Grateful for having shared her life are three daughters, Sharon Stahl of Sioux Falls, Elaine Kleinsasser and her husband, Wil of Huron, and Georgiane Kleinsasser and her husband, Ken of Hitchcock; two sons, Douglas Stahl and his wife, Betty of Huron, and Donald Stahl of Huron; thirteen grandchildren, Darrel (Molly LaMont) Stahl, Shelly (Scott) Amundson, Georgetta (Tim) Loewen, Jorjena (Mike) Tschetter, Dean (Zeyna) Kleinsasser, Elana (Chris) Harakel, Katie (Aaron) Dick, Kevin (Heather) Kleinsasser, Kenny (Ellie) Kleinsasser, David (Michelle) Stahl, James (Gayle) Stahl, Robert (Tasha) Stahl and Brent Stahl; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Stahl of Freeman and Mary Opsahl of Carpenter.
