Bertha Pearl Tschetter was born June 1, 1910, at Freeman, South Dakota, to Peter W. and Anna (Hofer) Tschetter. She moved with her family to Beadle County in 1917 and attended a country rural school in Fairfield Township.

Mother was baptized upon the confession of her faith on September 18, 1927, by the Rev. P. P. Tschetter. She became a member of the Fairfield Bethel Church and later transferred her membership to the Mt. Olivet Mennonite Church in Huron.

On September 8, 1929, at 1:30 in the afternoon she was united in marriage to Dave P. Tschetter at the Fairfield Bethel Church. A meal was hosted after the wedding in her parent’s home. They farmed in Beadle County for 55 years. In 1984, they retired and moved to Huron with their son Milton. They shared life’s joys and sorrows for 56 years.

We have many special memories of our mother and grandmother. She was a hard worker and always wanted to feed us when we came to visit. She lovingly prepared meals for us to    enjoy, baked many loaves of bread, cooked numerous batches of apple-plum jam, and crocheted afghans until she was no longer able to do so. Even now during the last few weeks of her life, she was still  concerned about what we would eat whenever we came to visit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dave in 1985; four sisters, Lydia, Anna, Sarah and Lena; and four  brothers, Pete, William, Ferd and Edward.

Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter, Delores and husband, DeLor Stahl of Yale; two sons; Milton Tschetter of Huron and Harlan Tschetter and his wife, Rose of Hitchcock; five grandchildren, Delvin and Winona Stahl, Delphia and Gordon Wiebe, Vanessa and Tony Johnson, Delroy Stahl, and Kevin and Peggy Tschetter; eleven great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Charity Stahl, Tiffani (Andy) Pauls, Adrienne (Jeremy) Grace, Allison (Ryan) Petersen, Austin Wiebe, Jordan Stahl, Mariah and Madison Johnson, and Mara and Kayla Tschetter.

Mother went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at her home at the age of 97 years, 11 months and 24 days.
