Benjamin Reed

Benjamin Reed, age 87, of Redfield, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Redfield.  Interment with military rites was Monday, July 2th, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at San Antonio, Texas. 

Benjamin Milford Reed, Jr. was born May 22, 1924, at Tuttle, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Lillian Reed.  He lived on a farm outside of Pocasset, Oklahoma until age four when his mother died.  He attended school at Chickasha, Oklahoma, graduating in 1942. 

He joined the Army Air corps in 1943 and trained as a pilot.  He participated in the Berlin Air Lift in German in 1948.  During his career he was stationed in Germany, Alaska, Japan, Okinawa and Vietnam.  He retired in 1966.  As an Air Force reservist, he earned the rank of major.  He also earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Among the honors he received during his career were the World War II Victory Medal, the Occupation Medal (Germany), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), the Air Fore Longevity Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the Good Conduct Medal with four bronze loops.

He married May Ray of Chickasha, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Mira Reece and Patricia Morrison, both of Universal City, Texas; a son, Stephen of Mountainburg, Arkansas; a sister, Barbara Endahl of Paradise, California; and four grandchildren.
