Barbara Walter

Barbara Walter, age 59, of Auburn, Washington, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls as the result of an automobile accident in Huron.    Her funeral service was at 2 PM on Sunday, September 21st, at the First United Methodist Church in Huron with Lay Pastor Fawn Lamb, officiating.  Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to Community Living in Kent, Washington, or the Huron Area Center for Independence. 

Barbara Williams was born on October 12, 1948 to Stanley “Bill” and Adeline (Thompson) Williams, at Langdon, North Dakota.  In 1959, she moved with her family to Clark County, South Dakota.  Barbara attended school at Willow Lake and Huron College. 

On June 20, 1964, Barbara married Tillman Hofer at Willow Lake.  They lived near Carpenter where they farmed. 

She later married Ronnie Walter at Auburn, Washington on December 30, 1992.  They made their home at Auburn.  Barbara worked at Community Living, a facility for mentally disabled adults. 

Barbara’s hobbies and interests included riding snowmobiles and the Harley-Davidson motorcycle with her husband, Ron, playing with her Pug dog “Reba”, working in her flower and rock gardens, and collecting and making ornamental frogs.  She enjoyed going to the canal on weekends and spending time with her family and friends. 

Her grandson Jonathan preceded her in death.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Ronnie of Auburn, Washington; two children, David Hofer and his fiance Tracy, of Carpenter, and Teresa Bemis and her husband Mike, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three step-daughters, Ronda Tifft and her husband Peter, of Auburn, Washington, Rayanne Walter, of Puyallup, Washington, and Leslie Martinez, of Seattle, Washington; one step-son, Lyle Sherman and his wife Waltrud, of Germany; ten grandchildren, Derick Hofer and his wife Cherri, of Carpenter,  Ashley Jessen and her husband Nat, of Redfield,  Jaime Walter, of Auburn, Washington, Hunter and Shelby Bemis, of Minneapolis, Bobby Martinez, Michael Martinez and his wife Katie,  Katie Martinez, and Samantha Tifft, all of Washington, and Jennifer Sherman, of Germany; two great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Hofer and Jazaria Sherman;  her parents, Stanley “Bill” and Adeline Williams, of Huron; and a special friend, Rick (Anne) Scholzen, of Auburn, Washington.
