Arnold Hohm obituary photoArnold Hohm, age 94, of Omaha, Nebraska, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in Omaha.  His funeral service was at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 19th, at Bethesda Church with the Rev. Phil Plett officiating.  Burial was in the Ideal Cemetery.

Arnold Hohm was born August 20, 1916, to Albert and Barbara (Tschetter) Hohm. He graduated from Yale High School and Huron College.  He worked for Standard Oil in Huron.  While in Huron he was an active member of Bethesda Church.  He and his wife, Lillian often performed with Arnold singing and Lillian accompanying him on the piano.  Arnold was heard on the radio in Huron.

Arnold was in the Navy during World War II, serving in Havana, Cuba and honorably discharged in 1947.

Arnold and Lillian were married on September 21, 1947.  They lived in Pierre, South Dakota and Cheyenne, Wyoming, before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1963.  Arnold worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers during this time until his retirement in 1980 as a Real Estate Specialist.  He used his farm background and knowledge of farming to negotiate acquisition of land for projects such as the Oahe Dam in Pierre, missile sites in Wyoming, and dam projects in Nebraska. 

Arnold was an avid golfer and photographer.  He practiced both hobbies after retirement, traveling with Lillian to work assignments in Virginia, Germany, and Hawaii.

After her retirement they traveled to France, Italy, The Netherlands, Austria, Israel, Greece, Jordan, Egypt, Alaska, the Bahamas, and to the British Isles. 

Arnold was active in the Central District Conference for many years.  He and Lillian celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary September 21, 1997.

Arnold will always be remembered for his musical talents, his quiet confidence and strength, and gentle good humor.  He and Lillian often hosted missionaries while they were home on furlough.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Larry Hohm and Karen Shaw, of Seattle, Washington, and Kirby Hohm and Amy Tran of Omaha, Nebraska; his brother, Dr. Will Hohm of St Charles, Illinois; his sister, Bonnie Ochsner of Boston, Massachusetts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; one brother, Ralph Hohm; and one sister, Violet Kludt.
