Tyler Schwartz obituary photoTyler Schwartz, age 58, of Huron, died Saturday, May 23, 2015, at his home. His funeral service was 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 28th at the Riverview United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dean Trapp, officiating. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery at Iroquois.

Tyler Lee Schwartz was born July 4, 1956, to LeRoy and Lila (Welch) Schwartz at Huron.  At a young age his family moved from Iroquois to Wisconsin. When he was 6 years old, his family returned to South Dakota. He grew up in the Huron area and attended Huron area schools.

On June 26, 1976, Tyler married Judy Ann McMillan in the Riverside Park at Huron.

Tyler worked for the City of Huron in the Parks and Recreation department for over 37 years. On December 1, 1978, he became an active member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFSCME Local 169. Over the years, Tyler served local 169 as president, executive board member, park and rec. steward and as a member of the negotiations team. He has also served on the state level as AFSCME Council 59 trustee and secretary-treasurer. Tyler was awarded the Taylor/Morsching Award in 2008 for “Outstanding Union Member of the Year.”   In the 1980’s, Tyler was part of a small group that established the Beadle County Humane Society.

Tyler enjoyed his time watching the Chicago Bears football team and golfing with friends. He was especially proud of the home projects he completed. He also enjoyed yard work and loved to listen to the birds in his backyard.  Most of all, Tyler cherished his time with his wife, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Shirley Schwartz; and two brothers, Todd in 2007 and Tony in 2012.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Judy of Huron; one brother, Tim (Leila) Schwartz of Huron; parents-in-law, Keith and Shirley McMillan of Huron; two sisters-in-law, Tracey Schwartz and Karen (Bill) Sunderman, both of Huron; two aunts, Rose Schwartz and Evelyn Cudmore, both of Huron; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
